Person making TikTok video

TikTok lands itself into yet another controversy as the hashtag #banTikTok becomes trending on Twitter.

This comes after one of the TikTok influencers, Faizal Siddiqui, posted a video which showed him enacting an acid attack on a woman by throwing liquid on a girl and the girl getting scars using TikTok’s own filters.

This video received a strong backlash both from acid attack survivors and general audiences which saw the video to be hurtful towards the survivors. Following this, many videos appeared where people enacted similar routine which seemed to promote acid attack.

To add fuel to the fire, Carry Minati’s video of ‘TikTok vs. YouTube’ was deleted from YouTube due to its queerphobic and classist nature. This instigated people to start the hashtag while also saying that the platform has been having adverse effects during already tough times.

TikTok’s ratings on Play Store have gone down to 1.6 stars from 4.3 stars in just a few days.
