Shoes that tie themselves — Nike’s GOT IT!
If you are one of those people who hate spending hours adjusting your shoe laces, then here is some good news for you! Nike Inc has launched its first ever power-lacing sneaker — Nike HyperAdapt 1.0, which allows users to make the shoes looser or snugger by simply pressing buttons placed on the side of the shoe.
The self-lacing sneaker, available in three colours, will be out starting this holiday season, and will only be available for members of its loyalty Nike+ app. However, Nike did not reveal the price of the sneaker yet.
Commenting on the Nike’s innovation, Matt Powell, sports industry analyst at NPD Group Inc, a market research firm, said, “The adaptive lacing system is an excellent first step towards truly adaptive personalized footwear.”
Globe’s largest and one of the most celebrated brands located at Beaverton, Oregon introduced the sneaker to the world yesterday along with horde of other innovations at a media event in New York.
One of the innovations highlighted by Nike at the launch was the ‘anti-clog traction’, which utilises technology that prevents mud from sticking to the soles of soccer cleats.
Evidently in recent times, Nike has become all the more innovative with its personalized products and services in order to reach a goal of posting US $50 billion in annual revenue by the end of its fiscal 2020 year. It reported US $30.6 billion in revenue for its latest fiscal year that ended in May.
The Company has also launched a new Nike Plus app, which is an all-access pass for athletes. It will be available from June and connects with Nike’s apps like include running and training aids and give access to Nike experts.
Speaking at the launch, Mark Parker, president and CEO, Nike said, “We’ve entered a new era of personalized performance. Today, athletes want more than just a dash board. They want a relationship.”
The Company said that shoes with adaptive lacing have huge potential as it provides tailored-to-the-moment custom fit.
As of now, a soon as the user wears the shoe, his heel will hit the sensor and he needs only to press two buttons on the side to adjust the grip. Nike, however, says that in the future, it won’t be manual and the sensor would sense whether the user needs to adjust the lace or not and tighten and loosen it accordingly.
