Spring/Summer 2016

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach the man to fish and you feed him for life. We don’t want to tell you about the It-bags and It-shoes, this is not a consumer-driven exercise. We also don’t want to tell you what to wear and how to wear it – that is your prerogative. Even your home should be a reflection of your state of mind. What we will tell you though are the IDEAS that are exploding in the design and manufacture section of the world. So that with the help these broad brush strokes you may fill in the details. Create an identity, a mood board, a full-fledged collection. Go on and play. We shall only supply the toys for you to curate yourself. The Themes and Projections range from fabrics and interiors to silhouettes but let not that be restrictive. Inter-disciplinary and versatile in nature, these trends transcend categorydefinition and are an invitation to experiment.

COLOR-SS-16

Colours

Spring/Summer 2016

A significant part of our lives, colours stimulate our five senses, evoke emotions and add substance to mere objects. Colours are an essential element of visual communication; they help people read hidden messages behind concepts. Each year designers from all over the world consciously play with colours and bring out collections that speak to the mind of the people visually. This season, colours for Spring/Summer ’16 are cool, tinted yet have
a feel of warmth to them. There are no solidity and sharpness this time. The colour scale has moved from bold and vibrant to minimal and  odernistic. Shades have been kept lighter, neither too loud nor to dull, carefully balanced. The hues are subdued yet the palette looks refreshing, soothing and lively. Soft, muted and warm tones of orange, purple, yellow, blue and turquoise worked out for many on the ramp. On the other hand, a lot of  nspiration was drawn out from muted pastels and neutrals.

FABRIC

Fabrics

Spring/Summer 2016

All civilisations are centred on water; it’s a need we haven’t been able to outgrow. But there is one more thing that separates the thinking animal from the feeling animal and that is cloth. It’s a very human instinct to create fabric, and anthropologists assure that the use of cloth predates the human exodus from Africa. This Spring/Summer, the prodigal race returns home to Africa. Being a major theme in prints, animal stripes are used as unconventional colours; the use of natural resources like bamboo, the cotton bud, the flax plant to make lightweight fabric; a return to slow fashion and handmade techniques signal a nostalgia for simpler times. Then there is a different kind of nostalgia, a fun-young remembrance of festive times which celebrates the decade of the 70s. All fashion trends accumulate on Woodstock and flowers in your hair, your dresses and enough to go around for garlands. The joie de vivre of this nostalgia ties in comfortably with the ecological concern of slow fashion. This Spring/Summer is light – in mood and fabric.

Silhouettes

Spring/Summer 2016

A shadow, lacking in form or flesh, a mere two-dimensional indication of how things may be, but never the truth. Isn’t a silhouette a two-dimensional compression of the truth, changing dependent on the perspective it’s being looked at? The silhouette predictions this season vary from the jaggedness of deliberate asymmetry to form fitting bandeaus. Athletic and relaxed slouches seem to be current for both men and women as bomber jackets and overalls make a comeback with crop tops and mesh layering. With the increased number of the urban population going to the supermarket and hitting cafes in yoga pants and even Silicon Valley Czars making the hoodie a staple Athlesiure that does not intent to leave us anytime soon.

Spring/Summer 2016

With a new season come new possibilities to reinvent your wardrobe and reshape the look of fashion, molding it into the era being ushered in. There were an array of trends that resonated deeply and calling them an interpretation of the 80s would be an understatement. There were gender-bending androgynous looks and youthful energetic ones that took on an urban twist to the military, oriental and nightwear trend. Typically feminine fabrics dominated the most original runways, owing to satin and lace and a palette of green stood out the most as the strongest colour trend for SS’16. The increased use of motifs and hybrid trends were joined by an abundance of block patterns, all-white looks, pinstripes and animal prints.

SS16-INTERIORS

Home & Interior

Spring/Summer 2016

Decorating comes to us naturally; we want to dress up our surroundings. Whether it is to impress those who stop by or for ourselves purely. It’s our cave dweller instinct. Even early man had artistic scribbles on the wall; man creates and recreates what he sees. A hoarder by nature, our spaces become these disjointed portraits of ourselves. Sentimental items that have no purpose but we still hold on to them because of a memory, useful items that go against our very aesthetic but fulfil an important purpose, that colour on the wall that you once liked but now hate or don’t even notice anymore. The house can be a sanctuary – a space that separates you from them. Where you retire to flush your brain and renew yourself from the exhortations of the world, to start anew again. Or it can be a welcoming space for you and your crew, a space that gets your creative juices flowing or just lets you relax. It can be anything; it can be you, and here are 4 more ways to be more.
