In a completely bizarre move, Pavers Shoes, a UK-based shoe chain has sent a formal order to its staff to refrain from talking about Brexit post the vote.

The order was delivered to the 1000- plus staff force in form of a written notice, which they had to sign the moment they stepped into the store the day after Brexit vote. Interdisciplinary action awaited those who refused to sign.

The owners of the chain explained the move by saying that it was done to avoid causing customers discomfort or offending and upsetting anyone holding opposing views on Britain’s choice to leave the EU.

The notice in question reads, ‘In light of recent political developments in the UK, this is just a gentle reminder that we would advise against sharing of political views at work, particularly when in earshot of customers stores and clients head office. Sharing of political views could potentially be seen as discriminatory in the current climate and could upset those who do not share your views.’

The notice also included rules for sharing political opinion on social media, as it had a clause that read, ‘Any employees who wish to share their views via social media should ensure that their profile is not linked to Pavers in any way.’

Also, along with banning talks about Brexit among the store employees, the authorities have also ordered the staff to prevent customers too from engaging in similar conversations.

“I came into work first thing in the morning. I went into the back office and my manager gave me a piece of paper to read and sign,” said an employee who had voted to leave the European Union.

“They have said, it is because of racism. But Brexit isn’t about racism. The ban is ridiculous. It’s like they are trying to keep us in the dark. They don’t want to hear anyone else’s opinion,” the employee further added.

This notice was sent to all of the chain’s 150 stores.
