FORECASTTranslating today's influences into tomorrow's fashion
Traditionally, spring is a time to rediscover; the spring of 2015, however, is a time to reconsider-reconsider the courses of life we lead, choices we make and the identities we create for ourselves. Exhaustion is said to lead to awakening and a raging need for self-actualisation and who is more exhausted than the urban individual today? Leaving behind the disappointments of the rambling life people build around themselves, they seek solace in the comforting arms of revelations and unpredictability- letting their minds wander through art, dwelling in theories of science and exploring a more endearing side of technology. Switching between contrasting principles of folk and contemporary, such paths are charted out which are more substantive than popular- whether for correcting forlorn decisions which wronged them and the broader entity they live in or for discovering the sole purpose of life. Societies soften and derive satisfaction through self sufficiency and that imbues the overlooked country man with much needed strength.
Global Runway Reports Menswear
The international runway reports are carefully consolidated and put together after reviewing the runway shows of the top fashion capitals in the world- New York, London, Milan, Paris and Miami for Swimwear. There are themes, general looks, silhouettes, prints, colours and detail trends that are picked out, separately for womenswear by analyzing all the shows, keeping the best-selling and most popular trends of the season in mind. The menswear show for spring summer 2015 revolved around London’s mix of tradition and contemporary designs to a sober tour in Milan, to a complete rock fest at our final destination of Paris. For womenswear, it was all about dialing back to the 70’s. The cities gave a choice between disco and Woodstock bohemia in their own distinct ways.

Spring Summer 2015 witnessed the ‘70s decade which involved luxe eveningwear, tailored work wear and subtle hints of the styles influenced by the time perioda bit of suede, Op art prints, higher necks and a slight flaring. There was visible flare and fluting of trousers, dramatically done in the case of jumpsuits, highnecked tees, crochet knits and suede outerwear, the references were all there. However, instead of traditional ‘70’s looks, designers indulged in an essence of the decade in cuts, garments, colours or prints. In addition to faux fur, disco luxe, glam rock, psychedelic prints, sequin and crochet; 60’s shift shapes, boxy tops, large patch pockets; 40’s cape sleeves, bib fronted dresses; 50’s twinsets and duchesse pantsuits. There was also a very strong influence of sports luxe from the 90’s- think bomber jackets, tube socks, spaghetti straps, knitwear panelled with sheer fabrics, camisole dresses and sneakers.
Global Runway Reports Swimwear
Where beachwear trends are concerned, there will always be the floral prints, the nautical inspired suits, the little black two-piece and certain other staple looks. But from bold cutouts to stringed detailing on bottoms, there was enough experimenting too. This year at the Miami Swimwear Week 2015, plenty of new, exciting options cropped up, which would put one out of their sartorial comfort zone and into a risqu é mesh number or a high-waisted vintage bikini or cutout halter one-pieces.
As Resort shows roll out for six long weeks, the season continues to prove itself to be one that is steady- because more designers are taking part every passing year as a result of the season’s long shelf life and increasing consumer demand. While some designers stick to the traditional meaning of “resort” and present palm trees and swim suits, there are others who are not bound to seasonal dressing and present great insights on the approaching summer trends. The 70s was undeniably the most popular era and the silhouettes trending were sleeker, structured and cinched unlike the oversized wave of the past. As for prints, florals were redefined with geometry and tie dye took a new spin, while transparency held down its chartered territory. Asymmetry was embraced as the general shape in most collections through innovations in slits, wraps and various folding techniques. Zippers are going to witness more creative application, collars are being rendered in sharper designs and pockets are being pleated, sans the flap. In addition to these details, transforming the silhouette vastly, there is ornamentation like tassels, slits and side pleats that lift up the garment and are being used to complete the final look.
Wills India Fashion Week
The 24th edition of the Wills India Fashion Week upheld its reputation of delivering designer-specific collections that rarely deviate in style or character, but it would be unfair to omit those which did. It was invigorating to witness a wave of young designers who played around with fascinating cultural themes, stage atmospheres and extraordinary styling. While diamonds inspired one designer to set the stage with mirrored walls, another brought traditional dancers on stage, and another designer had models sashay through the audience. One designer, inspired by the 60’s flower child, transformed the stage into her own little garden space with blooming flowers in pots and grass to walk on. Sportswear was still going strong, and smart androgynous looks were presented with gusto alongside Eastern influences that seemed to grow in popularity.
