Black Ice-cream Makes Debut!
All colours fade away with a colour so Black! Driving it to your bowls… the New York-based ice-cream parlour – Morgenstern’s Finest Ice Cream – has added a new colour with a flavour which is as unique as Black! And this ‘black’ scoop of ice-cream flavour is set to make debut this summer.
The new summer savour is Jet Black and the flavour is no, not the chocolate, it’s “Coconut Ash” which is “simply the charred and processed remains of a coconut shell”, says the founder Nick Morgenstern.
This most appetizing dessert flavour is made of coconut unlike how other black foods are made of with Squid Ink. The founder points out that this coconut ash is actually a form of “activated charcoal, a trendy ingredient that has appeared in everything from cocktails to pizza”. While some believe the coconut ash has detoxifying properties, the studies have not found this to be true.
Morgenstern gets his coconut ash from a health food store and even mentioned that “theoretically [it] has health benefits,” but says that he wasn’t thinking about that when he made the flavour. He just wanted to use it to make an intensely coconut ice cream.
