Runway Report SS’17: Pankaj & Nidhi Marry Print With Texture in a Collection that Borderlines on Abstract Art.
Opening with a mish-mash of prints and textures created using raffia adorned with leather and thread-work doodling in abstract cuts of scalloped edges and amoeba shapes, the designer duo set the tone of their collection that was inspired dramatically by abstract art.
Interestingly, the notes circulated post-show state that the inspiration struck the duo while attending the famed Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts in Piccadilly, London where they were taken aback by the avid collection of paintings, sculpture, photography, printmaking, architecture and a film that was on display that led them on the path of discovering new abstract art for their latest collection.
Details like flares in the form of ruffles and hemlines, pleating, asymmetric cuts and slits, fringes and 3D fabric manipulated scallops brought the collection alive and lent an artistic aura to the garments.
Pastel shades dominated the collection in anti-fit and relaxed silhouettes that underlined a playful mood for the upcoming season.
Print marries textured in an array of red-carpet-ready looks that the models sashayed down the runway where each portrayed the charm of the aforementioned muse, in all her glory.
