Rimzim Dadu’s educational showcase on 3D live textiles
Rimzim Dadu is one of the few innovative brains among the army of new age designers to have created a niche for herself by her continuous exploration and experimentation with 3D live textiles.
This phenomena not only reflected in her collection but also the show, which kicked off with a live exhibit on the runway of tailors and kaarigars demonstrating what went behind creating the surfaces chosen for the designs. The guests were invited and urged to witness and understand what went behind the creation of this year’s collection 20 minutes before the show commenced.
These live exhibits showcased the warping and wefting of silicone and leather, 3D paisley embroidery made of fabric specs, silver and black wire embroidery dyed in an array of colours, strips of georgette strewn together on paper to create fringed surfaces and cords of chiffon strewn together to create a wired effect.
Quite a handful for one with a mind of curiosity…The intrigued movement through surface texturing was materialized as wire-infused peplum tops, dresses and even the saree – lending an unconventional appeal to the show. Water soluble texturing made into A-line dresses and twin-sets.
The focus was not as much on silhouettes and trends as it was on the exploration of different materials for fabric and texture manipulation. Educating and Different, it makes you wonder – the direction in which Indian fashion is headed and how much we, as humans still have to explore…
