Imagine minting money on your own wedding! Yes, that’s the next level startup ideated by an Australian for the love of the much celebrated Indian weddings.

JoinMyWedding is a platform that allows the wedding hosts to register their weddings on the website and sell tickets to the public. The only thing one need to do is add details about his/her wedding, such as the venue, theme, and the number of tickets available, along with the pricing. In order to make their wedding look more attractive, people can also add additional information. The website ensures safety by making the wedding visible only to a certain guest pool and not revealing the exact location to people, unless they buy a ticket. Apart from this, the website also facilitates crowd funding for its users.

The sale of tickets on the website starts from US$ 150 (a wedding hosted by a Russian couple in Lord of the Rings style) and can go as high as US$ 550 (for a four day event inclusive of accommodation and travel expenses between Udaipur and Indore).

Thirty-three year old Australian startup mentor Orsi Parkanyi is the brain behind this idea, which she initially ideated to get more and more foreigners like herself to experience the big fat quintessential Indian wedding.

“I wished I could go too, but sadly I didn’t have an invite,” she recalls the time when she envied a friend who had an invite to an Indian wedding and she didn’t. But it was only when another friend divulged that even she wanted to go, Parkanyi recognized the need to come up with a brilliant new entrepreneurial idea.

She collaborated with Marti Matecsa, a Hungary-based strategy consultant and got Mumbai-based brand and marketing consultant, Pallavi Savant on board and launched joinmywedding.com a month ago.

It’s great how someone finally invented a way to get some cash back (sort of) from weddings as they are the most lavish and expensive affair.
