Latest Panoply of Emojis are a Reflection of Society
Imagine a life without the ever expressive emojis and having to type those faux faces that portray your emotions? They have almost become the second language of expressing our emotions, and goes across all age groups; none can be old enough to be unable to find irrelevance in the emoji world.
You may like or dislike them, but cannot ignore them; they are here to stay with all their panoply. The theme based emoji-sets and apps are trending in the technology world, and are riding the crest of the wave. After ‘kimoji’, the latest fad is ‘pokémoji’. The proposed ‘pokémoji’ gained momentum after the game Pokemon Go, peaked in fame. It’s not surprising that in an age of self-expression, emojis, do reflect the behavioral pattern of the people in one or another manner. Listed here are some of the latest releases and the most awaited emoji-sets and apps:
1) IRIS APFEL
Iris Apfel, at the age of 94, never misses a beat with her iconic style. The fashion influencer is set to release a clothing and accessories collection in collaboration with, Macy’s private- label brand— INC International Concepts— this fall, to mark the occasion of the recently debuted Apfel-themed emoji to allow the Apfel fans to enjoy a free 42-emoji keyboard. Apfel’s emojis are available now for download on Apple iTunes and Google Play now.
2) OLYMPICS 2016
With star players releasing their customized personal emoji’s, at the Rio Olympic Games, WhatsApp has jumped in the wagon and added the iconic Olympic rings as an emoji on Android and iOS, it comes packed in the WhatsApp version 2.16.7.
This is being called a secret emoji as it needs coded symbols to be entered into the chat box in order to make the icon visible. Once done, it can be copy-pasted to other messages. In addition, there are more than 50 Olympics and sports emojis and 207 team emojis at play on Twitter. The hashtags for emojis can be triggered by entering the country code in English, French, Portuguese, and Spanish. Emojipedia will help you out to look up codes and symbols.
The Jamaican sprinter, Usain Bolt, chipped in a week ahead of the start of the games with ‘Boltmoji’ with support from Puma, which has him as its brand ambassador. Apart from Bolt, Michael Phelps rolled out #Phelpmoji on Twitter, an emoji pack can be had on Android and Apple platforms for $0.99.
3) MORE GIRL POWER
Google employees have proposed a new set of emojis aimed at augmenting gender equality in the workplace, including farming, manufacturing, healthcare, technology, business, education, food service and music. The team presented 13 new emojis at the Unicode Consortium, a Silicon Valley not-for-profit group that runs an “emoji subcommittee” overseeing the creation of new emojis.
4) NON SEXIST EMOJIS
The move to modernize emoji had been in the pipe-line for a while now; Apple in their endeavor has recently announced that they will update their emoji library to include gender swapping emojis. With the update you’ll be able to switch the direction of your emoji’s actions, and swap their hair colour (with red, grey and bald options becoming available). The new graphics will be available this fall, when the company releases iOS 10. The new emojis will also include single-parent families headed by both men and women, and a rainbow flag.
5) ‘NO GUN VIOLENCE’ EMOJI
As a direct outcome of the series of mass shootings in the U.S, that has put the spotlight back on its gun control issues; Apple revealed that it is replacing its black emoji handgun with a green water pistol. The swap will come when Apple rolls out its new operating system – iOS 10.
Apart from these, there are a few other interesting emojis like, Bitmoji, which lets you create your own emoji and link it to your Snapchat to portray your life more precisely; not leaving out mothers, we also have the EmojiMom, which can be found on the app store.
