Bizarre Trend: Leg Contouring
Bizarre Trend: Leg Contouring
Leaving nothing to imagination, the fashion world has now taken to leg contouring — to make them appear longer, leaner, and more toned — something that was literally heralded by the annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.
This latest trend has added legs to the lineup of body parts to sculpt and chisel to perfection. The idea of leg contouring has been quite a buzz for some time now.
Though it may seem intimidating to use light and dark makeup shades to create dimensions on your stems, vloggers seem to believe that its actually much simpler. This new beauty trend appears to be applying contouring makeup to the inner and outer regions of your legs, to add a little extra gam-dimension!
In a new Instagram video, Makeup by Meri showcases how to DIY calf definition and overall slimmer legs, using strategically placed makeup.
Do you think contouring has gone too far with this trend?
Also Instagrammer nikkifrenchmakeup has been among those to share her make-up tricks, applying a dark liquid bronzer with a sponge to her thighs and sides of her lower leg.
This long process of contouring starts out with what looks more like a tribal make-up design, one needs to draw a series of lines and swirls in varying shades of brown and cream painted over their legs, with highlighter on their knees, shins and the sides of her thighs. Then further layers of cosmetics are applied to the backs of the legs and filled with highlighter in a pink shade to get flawless legs.
But is this a step too far for women’s beauty regimes?
While many online were impressed by the look, some expressed concern about the time it would add to getting ready.
Lori Leib, creative director at Bodyography Professional Cosmetics, told website New Beauty, “I am all for spray-tanning and lunges to keep our legs looking lean and mean for summer, but this is taking it a little bit too far.
“All in all, I would suggest a body bronzer or tinted moisturizer to give your legs a flawless look – this is just too much work!”
“Why would anyone do this for real life? Another example of ridiculous fodder for the ‘audience’,” says celebrity makeup artist Pati Dubroff. “On set and on the red carpet, a little body makeup, or a tinted lotion, goes a long way… There is always a risk of rubbing makeup off on clothing, but this is on another level. Imagine the dry cleaning bills? Imagine how every place you sit will be covered in makeup, and the smudgy mess that will be left behind on your legs. This is getting out of control!”
