LFW’2016: Calling out Bold and Curvy!
So, just as recent as now when Nike put across a sports bra campaign with a non-straight sized model, we knew it will give rise to a new trend in the fashion industry, across the globe. And the first to follow the suit is India, which will host the first ever plus-size model hunt for males and females at the winter-festive edition of Lakmé Fashion Week (LFW), curated by designer Shilpa Chavan of Little Shilpa in association with the plus-size store, aLL. The auditions will be held at St Regis on July 29 for plus-size men and women who aspires to walk the ramp.
This is a breakthrough in terms of portraying the fashion industry welcoming the needs and wants of women and men of all shapes and sizes in India, which further diversifies into coming up with creations for the people who are often restricted by the available size options.
This hunt is a precursor to the first plus-size show to be held during the upcoming LFW at St. Regis from August 24-28, said a statement.
Jaspreet Chandok, Vice President and Head-Fashion, IMG Reliance Pvt. Ltd. said, “We are looking forward to this show that will introduce new trends on the runway and also nurture plus-sized models interested in a career in modelling. We believe that fashion should embrace diversity and cater to all body types. He further added, “The show is meant to highlight that one can be plus-sized and yet be fashionable, stylish and fabulous. At the auditions, we are looking for confident plus-sized males and females who are comfortable in their own skin.
“At Lakmé Fashion Week, we are very excited to present our first plus sized fashion show in association with Little Shilpa. Redefining the future of fashion yet again, Lakmé Fashion Week always strives for a more inclusive future for us all,” said Purnima Lamba, Head of Innovation, Lakmé. Adding, “Fashion and beauty in India must reflect our diversity.”
The world is working towards making a place where everyone can feel good about themselves and not ignored. People have started accepting beauty in all forms; imperfections are being praised and society is becoming more inclusive!
