Hedi Slimane ‘not launching own-label’
Hedi Slimane, on whom speculations were rife about him launching his eponymous label, has confirmed that the news was nothing but a rumor. But, this he did not do it in person; he hired a lawyer for it.
The former Saint Laurent creative director’s name started popping up in headlines everywhere, with rumours of his engagement in a new label, that too in his own name, started doing the rounds.
Tweeting a legal letter from his personal account, Slmane shunned all rumors. “For the record, Hedi Slimane has never had in the past, let alone now, the intention or desire to launch a brand under his name”, the tweet read. “And therefore denies recent rumours (including in WWD) of alleged encounters with investors, in Paris or Doha, where Hedi Slimane has in fact never been,” it went on to state.
Following his recent commercial success, a new rumour started going around about Slimane. This time, it was about taking Karl Lagerfeld’s position at Chanel — a speculation ignited by the fact that Kaiser was seen wearing a Saint Laurent jacket designed by Slimane at Chanel’s 2017 cruise show in Cuba.

His statement in the legal letter stated his loyalty towards his design team at Yves Saint Laurent. It stated, “Hedi Slimane dedicates these four creative and inspiring years to Pierre Bergé.”
Although the legal letter didn’t say much or address anything about his exit from Saint Laurent, it said, “Hedi Slimane wishes to extend a public and vibrant tribute to his entire team, to whom he will be forever grateful and loyal.”
