Fashion needs to slow down, says CFDA and BFC
COVID-19 has given time for everyone to rethink about everything, be it purchases or business models. The fashion industry has been heavily affected by fast fashion which resulted in over-consumption of apparels.
The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and British Fashion Council (BFC) have issued a joint statement to all the retailers, which urges them to slow down on the production of merchandise.
Due to store closures as well as crashed consumer demand, the brands have excess amounts of inventory owing to the fast fashion model. The statement has urged designers and brands to slow down on production as well as deliveries while continuing it for the coming future.
“With existing inventory stacking up, designers and retailers must also look at the collections cycle and be very strategic about their products and how and when they intend to sell them,” read the statement.
