India earns Homophobic tag, Transgender glitters
When it comes to LGBT rights, there are countries who are considered to be Homophobic. India, by desperately clinging to Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code*, falls under the same category.
Meanwhile, making a worthwhile Fashion and Political statement at EuroPride 2016, the Gown made of flag patterns of 72 countries including India, worn by a Transgender Model Valentijn de Hingh, is expressing more than just the plight of Homosexuals.
RAINBOW DRESS 2016 | Mattijs van Bergen & Oeri van Woezik | Pieter Henket from Roland Pupupin on Vimeo.
‘Homophobia’ the fear of homosexuality was represented better at the opening walk of the Event. The model walked in a powerful piece that projected 72 countries’ colours, which are homophobic and have failed to decriminalise homosexuality.
Celebrating the spirit of Europride festivities and In conjunction with Dutch advocacy group COC, a team of Dutch fashion designer Mattijs van Bergen and spatial designer Oeri van Woezi, went on to create a striking statement with their designer piece. However, despite the effort, the plights of members of the LGBTQ community globally are far from over.
So proud of this amazing PRIDE project. ❤️💛💜💙💚 @rijksmuseum #rainbowdress @valentijndehingh

After closely looking at the interesting giant rainbow dress you would find an Indian flag as well, on the dress. With 71 other nations, India is inseparably stitched together, showcasing double standards and lack of empathy. India which is out and loud about criminalising Homo-sexuality surely needs to stop and think again.
