David Kim Whittaker presents her art collection ‘Therapy and the Theatre’
In a recent exhibition at Hong Kong’s Opera Gallery, David Kim Whittaker showcased select pieces from her series ‘Therapy and the Theatre’.
The transgender artist has put up 5 artworks that feature various mediums like pencil, acrylic and collage among others. Whittaker mentions that her internal struggles through the years have shaped the artworks.
The pieces themselves are reminiscent of an abstract representation of chaos of splattered paints with humanoid outlines depicting internal conflicts as well as settlements in the form of soft harmonious colours that are neutral and almost nature-like.
The most striking of the art cousins is a piece named ‘England Where Are You Going’ that scenically defines beauty of landscapes that are a part of British geography with the delusion of paints taking over the centrepiece as if the chaos is the focus even when surrounded by beauty.
