Chanel, Kering and Elle team up for ‘We Are Women’ Project
This year, the International Women’s Day will be celebrated in a special way, with nine major French corporations including some of the biggest names in fashion and beauty coming together for the first time for a project called We Are Women!
The project, headed by Elle Foundation’s chief representative, Karine Gudlemann, will include a series of 11 short documentaries that aim at promoting women’s empowerment across the world. Of this, each film will be a portrait of a different woman, representing a different country, such as China, Cameroon, Senegal, Nicaragua, US, Ethiopia, France, Cambodia and Brazil.
The series is being directed by Nils Tavernier and produced by Imagissime. After its completion, it will air on French state television channels as well as online between March 5 and 13.
The foundations behind this massive project are Kering Corporate Foundation, Chanel Corporate Foundation, Elle Foundation, The Air France Foundation, Orange Foundation, Raja-Danièle Marcovici’s Foundation, Sanofi Espoir Corporate Foundation, the Sisley-d’Ornano Foundation and the Solidarity Accorhotels Fund.
According to a press release by Kering Corporate Foundation, “The project aims to reveal the exemplary paths these women have chosen through a series of highly intimate portraits, filmed in their homes with their loved ones and in the places that are symbolic of their actions.”
The Kering Corporate Foundation is well-known for its initiatives to combat violence against women across the globe. It has also previously partnered with It’s On Us, an initiative led by the White House to address sexual assault on college campuses and the importance of mutual consent.
